It is associated with pain, redness, swelling, and discharge from the eyes. It can be due to a bacterial or viral infection. It is contagious and can spread from person to person. It normally resolves in a week or two. Rarely the infection can involve the cornea and cause decreased vision. Conjunctivitis usually recovers completely.
