Could I have Glaucoma?
Symptoms to watch out for.

Before we learn the symptoms, what is Glaucoma?

Hear out what our glaucoma specialist,

Dr. Swarnali Sen has to say.

Glaucoma is an eye condition that damages the optic nerve which is the nerve connecting the eye to the brain.

This damage is caused generally due to high pressure in the eyes, although sometimes it can happen without raised intraocular pressure too.

How will I know if I have glaucoma?

Glaucoma can occur at ANY age but is more common in older people. Many people with glaucoma have no early symptoms and glaucoma is caught only when they visit their eye doctor for some other eye problem. Visit your eye doctor regularly so that diagnosis and treatment can be started on time and not lead to long term vision loss.

Open-angle Glaucoma: There are usually no early symptoms.

Gradual loss of vision – especially loss of side vision. Many people realize this when they are driving and they can’t see vehicles coming from behind from the corner of their eye.

The loss of vision is from side to the center. This is called tunnel vision. The loss of vision in glaucoma cannot be reversed, which is why you must get an annual Eye check-up and do a glaucoma test even if you don’t have glaucoma.

Acute -angle Glaucoma: Some people with acute angle-closure glaucoma may experience symptoms at the initial stage which are severe. Headache, pain in eyes, nausea, and vomiting. Blurred vision with red eyes and halos around lights. Acute Angle-closure glaucoma is a medical emergency and needs to be treated fast.
