INVESTIGATIONS / ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC FACILITIES
Shroff Eye Centre is a leading eye centre in Delhi offering state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic services in all subspecialties of ophthalmology. These include:

GDx VCC (Laser Diagnostics)
New approach to Glaucoma Diagnosis with GDx VCC Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL) Analyzer
Indicated for earliest detection of Glaucoma even before any significant damage is discovered on visual field testing. The retinal nerve fiber layer is the actual site of damage caused by glaucoma and nerve fiber analysis with the GDx VCC is the only examination that quantifies this retinal nerve fiber loss.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a new, noninvasive, noncontact, transpupillary imaging technology, which can produce very high-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina. This technology can be used to help diagnose and thus treat a variety of retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membranes, cystoid macular edema, central serous choroidopathy and optic disc pits. We have recently introduced the Spectral Domain OCT (Optovue), which provides very high-resolution retinal imaging. This device also has an application for the early detection of glaucoma, as well as imaging of the cornea and anterior segment at a microscopic level

High Resolution Digital FA & ICG (Topcon Imagenet 2000)

Fluorescein angiography is a dynamic real time diagnostic tool to study the retinal vasculature. This involves an injection of fluorescein dye intravenously and then taking serial retinal photographs. This helps in diagnosing diseases of retina and choroid and also in evaluating the effect of treatment (medical or laser). The most common indications are Diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and vascular blocks of the retina.

Indo-cyanine Green angiography is done to evaluate the choroidal circulation. The most common indications are Age related macular degeneration and other choroidal pathologies. ICG angiography helps in evaluating the choroidal lesions which are not seen clearly on fluorescein angiography.

Automated Specular Microscopy
Each patient undergoing cataract surgery is examined in detail to assess the endothelial count of the cornea using this technology. The endothelium is the inner most layer of the cornea which is responsible for its transparency. Preoperative assessment of the endothelial count enables the surgeon to identify patients in whom this layer is weaker (low cell counts), who are not fit for the phacoemulsification procedure, and in whom surgery by the conventional technique would be safer.

IOLMaster
This device is a non-contact device for performing extremely accurate measurements of the eye and intraocular lens power calculations for patients undergoing cataract surgery.

Oculus Pentacam
This state-of-the-art device is capable of assessing the front and back surfaces of the cornea and estimating the corneal thickness for patients undergoing laser vision corrective procedures for the removal of glasses. This technology is far superior to conventional corneal topography for ruling out cases not suited for the above procedures.

B Scan (Ophthalmic Technologies Inc.)
Ultra Sound is an important non-invasive diagnostic tool when visualization of the internal structure of the eyes is not possible due to dense cataract or blood. It enables us to assess the visual prognosis better and plan the surgical procedure accordingly. The three-dimensional mode available in the machine is very useful in diagnosing mass lesions (tumors etc.) of the eye better.

Ocular Electrodiagnostics (Nicolet)

In keeping with the highest standards of excellence, Shroff Eye Centre has installed the latest state-of-the-art Nicolet system for dedicated Ocular Electrodiagnostics including Electro-retinogram (ERG), Electro-oculogram (EOG) and Visual Evoked Potential (VEP). Well-trained Optometrists perform the test as per ISCEV standards, and these are reported by consultants trained from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai and LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. The test results are compared with the normal database recorded at Shroff Eye Centre.

Besides the above, Shroff Eye Centre also possesses investigative facilities like Applanation Tonometry, non-contact tonometry, Gonioscopy, A-scan biometry (contact & immersion), computerized perimetry (Automated visual field analysis), and slit-lamp photography.
